Scout Sub Aqua Experience 2
17th January 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
We have approached Chester Sub Aqua Club and they have offered a great opportunity for Mersey Weaver Scouts to have a go at Scuba Diving! The Try Dive is on offer to all Scouts from all Troops on a first come first served basis.
To maximise the number of Scouts able to participate in the experience we will be offering two dates. Scouts may only take part in one of the two experiences.
Format
During the Try Drive, each participant will have their own dedicated instructor. Scouts will become familiar with the equipment, start to breathe underwater and experience the feeling of weightlessness as they gain basic buoyancy skills. The experience will count as one of the Activities required to earn the Adventure Challenge Badge as well as the Water Activities Activity Badge. Every participant will receive a try dive pack and certificate. They will also get some photographs of them while they are Diving.
The evening will be split into two sessions and Scouts will get an hour of diving in groups of 8. While one group is in the pool the other will get a tour around the boats plus a basic talk about diving and exploring wrecks around the British Isle which finishes with a Q&A.
The first session will start at 19:00 and finish around 20:00. There will be a quick turn around and the second session will be in the water for 20:10 and finish around 21:10. This will mean realistically a 18:00 approximate drop off and 22:00 pickup by parents. We shall confirm nearer the time.
Participation
All Scouts all welcome but there are certain health conditions such as diabetes, perforated eardrum, various respiratory conditions that may prevent participation. Any concerns please let us know and we’ll liaise with the club to see if it’s possible.
It is also crucial Scouts fit in the harness for the air tank . As a rough guide they need to able to fit in a small adult tee shirt. As a guide most under 12’s are unlikely to be large enough.
Transport
We will offer transport in the District minibuses. Potentially offering pickups and drop offs from multiple locations depending on demand.
What to wear/bring
Scouts will need a Swimming costume, a tee shirt to wear under the harness, towel and shampoo/shower gel. Maybe a snack and drink for before and afterward..
